With the shaft out of the way, you can use a small screw driver and work this black retainer clip out. Expect to destroy this clip as well so go ahead and purchase replacements. Once the retainer clip is removed, the release handle bezel comes right off. If you were careful, this bezel should have no damage to it and can be reused (unlike the release handle and retainer clip).
