H2O VWs have hub centric wheels. What this means is that when you put the rim on the car, there is a raised lip on the center area of the brake drum or rotor. That raised lip is a perfect fit inside the center opening of the factory wheel. That is what centers the wheel up when you mount them. A lot of other cars are not hub centric, so when you simply tighten up the lugs, the wheel gets centered automatically.
Now when you get an after market wheel, the center hole on that wheel is most likely to be larger than the raised lip, so when you tighten down the wheel, it may not be centered. This is why several people with after market rims have cars that vibrate all the time (and the guys at the tire shop keep saying the wheels are balanced).
In order to cure the problem, you need to get "hub adapters" for your rims that fit VWs. They are simply metal or plastic rings that fit into the center hole of the rim so that when you mount them, the wheel gets centered.
Why should you send a postcard? Because it is cheap to do and as we all know, the US Post Office is funding it's Super Muntant Army Project with fees from postcards stamps. I would really like to see a Super Muntant Army deliever my mail in the near future.
Thank you.
