Clunky Struts!

So you just put in a new set of struts in your A2 VW and now you hear a clunking sound up front every time you hit a little bump. This is a pretty common problem for the driveway tech, or for a shop that doesn't do much work on VWs. The cause is simple to fix with the correct tool.

Here is a photo of the tool that you need, and you can see the round nut the tool fits in. When new struts are installed, that round nut is what keeps the bearing plate in place (and holds all that pressure for the spring). Without that tool, it is hard to get that round nut tight using a screw driver or chisel and hamer.

With the tool, you can fix the problem without removing the struts. Simple open the hood, remove the plastic cap (if your car still has them) from the top of the strut. You will now see a metal "dish" and a 22mm nut in the dish. Remove the 22mm nut and then the dish, you will then see the round nut with the 2 notches in it. Place the tool over the round nut and tighten it up, then replace metal dish and 22mm nut. If you are lucky and have an air gun, you can do all this in 1 minute or so. Hand tools will have to take the long road, 5 minutes.

Why should you send a postcard? Because it is cheap to do and as we all know, the US Post Office is funding it's Super Muntant Army Project with fees from postcards stamps. I would really like to see a Super Muntant Army deliever my mail in the near future.
Thank you.
